About This So Loved Crochet blanket Pattern

This pattern creates a sweet baby blanket with raised puff stitch lettering that spells out "You Are So Loved" and decorative heart motifs. You will work single crochet rows with strategically placed puff stitches to form the letters and hearts. The pattern includes a full written row-by-row guide and a chart for visual reference to help you follow placement precisely.

So Loved Crochet blanket Pattern crochet pattern - detailed view of completed project

Perfect for baby gifts, nursery decor, or thoughtful keepsakes, the blanket is worked flat in rows. A simple finishing border and gentle blocking complete the polished look.

Why You'll Love This So Loved Crochet blanket Pattern

I absolutely love this pattern because it combines simple single crochet rows with the irresistible texture of puff stitches to create a heartfelt message. I enjoy how the raised letters pop from the background and add a handmade charm that feels very personal. The chart and the written rows make it satisfying to watch the design appear as you work. I also love that the project is flexible β€” you can make it thicker or larger by changing yarn weight and hook size, so it adapts to whatever you want to create.

Switch Things Up

I love how simple it is to customize this blanket β€” swap the single color for two-tone stripes to make the lettering pop in contrast.

I sometimes change the yarn weight and hook to create different sizes; using aran weight yarn and a 5.5mm hook will make a cuddle-worthy larger blanket.

I like to experiment with puff stitch spacing to create different fonts or symbols; you can alter counts in the letter sections to change the look of the text.

Consider replacing some puff stitches with embroidered details after finishing to add tiny motifs or names for personalization.

For a cozy, chunky finish, double up DK yarn or use a bulky yarn and adjust the repeat counts to maintain stitch totals where necessary.

I often add a decorative border such as crab stitch or a simple picot edge to give a professional finish and extra weight to the blanket edges.

If you want a modern look, use a speckled or heathered yarn for the background and a solid contrasting color for the puffs so the letters still read clearly.

To create a mini keychain or wall hanging version, make a smaller chain and follow the chart for a single line of text or a heart motif.

I recommend making a gauge swatch and experimenting with puff stitch tension before committing to the whole blanket β€” this helps match the appearance in the pattern photos.

For gifting, I like to stitch on a small fabric label or hang tag with care instructions and the message of the blanket; it makes the handmade item feel even more special.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

βœ— Working into the wrong loop of the starting chain can create an uneven edge; always work into the back bump of the chain for a neat border and consistent stitch edge. βœ— Skipping the instruction that all even rows are single crochet will change stitch counts and ruin the pattern placement; mark and note that every even row is Sc into all stitches to keep counts correct. βœ— Not pulling up the puff stitch loops consistently will produce uneven puffs; pull each yarn-over loop to a consistent height and tension before completing the puff stitch. βœ— Forgetting that the beginning chain is not included in the total stitch count can result in incorrect stitch totals; remember the chain of 104 stitches is the starting chain and each subsequent row ends with 103 stitches. βœ— Not checking stitch counts after rows with multiple repeated sections will cause misalignment later; count after each complex row (especially rows with repeated (ps,sc x n) sections) to confirm you have the correct totals. βœ— Ignoring blocking advice for acrylic yarn may overstretch your blanket; block gently and sparingly to avoid distortion since acrylic can over-stretch and not return to shape.

Info :

Needles : I used a 4mm hook for the blanket in the photo, my tension is on the looser side. If your tension is tight I would suggest going up in size with your hook. With a light worsted yarn a 4mm to 5mm will be fine, with a worsted yarn ( aran ) a 5mm to 5.5mm will also work perfectly, making it a much thicker bigger blanket.

Info :

Yarn : I used Stylecraft 100% premium acrylic dk 100g balls ( light worsted yarn ) in shade cream ~ 1005, I used 275g in total.

Info :

Finished blanket size : Approximately 28 inches X 28 inches. Depending on your tension, hook size and yarn used the size may vary.

Info :

Gauge : 17 stitches x 18 rows = 4 inch square. Adjust hook size if wanting the same size blanket in the photo.

Infos :

Terminology ( US & UK ) : Ch(s) ~ Chain(s). Sc ~ Single crochet ( UK double crochet ). Ps ~ Puff stitch. St(s) ~ Stitch(es). ( ) ~ Work instructions within brackets as many times as directed. Yo ~ Yarn over ( uk Yoh ~ Yarn over hook ).

Infos :

Pattern notes : Pattern is in US terminology. Gauge is not important for this pattern. Beginning chain is not included in the total stitch count. Every row ends with 103 stitches with a Ch 1 and turn. Always start the first Sc of each row into the first stitch that the ch1 came from. For best results it is best to use a plain solid colour. If you're reading the pattern from the chart, it is worked from the bottom of the chart upwards, and left to right. Add a stitch at the end of the chain row and start the 1st row from the 2nd chain from the hook, ch 1 at the end of each row. Puff stitches are created on the wrong side of the blanket and will pop out into the front of the blanket. If your puff stitch is not popping forward try a tighter than normal sc into the next stitch ( this sc will be part of the pattern, not an extra stitch added ). For pattern support please contact me via the website you purchased this pattern from. I had a left handed tester test this pattern for me, they found that following the lines backwards worked better for them, as this is my first left hand tester I can not confirm that this works.

Info :

How to create a Puff stitch : Yarn over and pull up a loop, 6 times ( 13 loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through 12 loops leaving 2 loops on the hook ( if you're finding it hard to pull through the 12 loops you may need to pull up a little higher when you yarn over, making them looser ) then yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops, sc into the next stitch to lock down the puff stitch, ( this sc will be part of the pattern, not an extra stitch added ) the puff stitch will naturally pop out on the right side of the blanket creating the puff stitch.

This pattern has been tested by independent crocheter's with all levels of crochet skills, but please feel free to contact me if you have any issues. You can contact me on Instagram via designs_by_hookeduponcrochet or hookeduponcrochet, or on Etsy.

Border : To finish off the blanket I like to do a row of sc down the left and right front sides, to tidy the raw edges. On this blanket I chose not to add a full border, the option is yours. To finish I like to do a gentle block ( which is optional ) With acrylic yarn it's best to be very gentle when blocking as the yarn can over stretch with no return, I start with the top and work around the blanket very gently.

Assembly Instructions

  • Work the starting chain of 104 stitches and ensure you begin Row 1 into the second chain from the hook to create the correct width before following the row sequence.
  • When working puff stitches, create them on the wrong side so they pop to the front; secure each puff by working the following single crochet which is part of the stitch pattern.
  • Finish raw edges by working a row of single crochet down the left and right front sides to tidy the edges; you may also add a full border if desired.
  • Block gently after finishing to even out rows and tidy the blanket, taking care with acrylic yarn as it can over-stretch if handled too aggressively.

Important Notes

  • πŸ’‘Always work Row 1 into the back bump of the starting chain to create a neat edge for your border.
  • πŸ’‘Every row ends with 103 stitches after the starting chain; keep track of counts especially after rows containing many repeated (ps, sc) sections.
  • πŸ’‘Puff stitches are worked on the wrong side and will pop forward; if they are not standing out try tightening the following single crochet to lock them forward.
  • πŸ’‘Gauge is not crucial for this design, but changing yarn weight and hook size will affect final blanket dimensions so adjust accordingly.

This sweet blanket spreads a simple, powerful message perfect for babies and loved ones. It combines textured puff stitches with clean single crochet rows for a modern, handmade look. Whether you make it for a nursery, gift, or keepsake, it will be treasured for years to come. 🧢🀍
