Why You'll Love This Baby Dandelion Amigurumi Pattern

I absolutely love this pattern because it combines simple amigurumi shaping with a wonderfully fluffy hair technique that gives each doll character. I enjoyed designing a tiny body that is easy to assemble yet looks polished when finished. The sculpting steps let you add gentle facial expression, and the thread joining method keeps limbs secure for play or display. Working on this piece is relaxing and rewarding, and I get excited every time I see the hair fluffed into a charming dandelion puff.

Switch Things Up

I love how easy it is to customize this Baby Dandelion by changing yarn colors; try soft pastels for a gentle look or bold shades for a playful version.

For a larger doll, I change to a thicker yarn and a larger hook—this makes a cuddlier, more robust toy perfect for display or play.

If you want ultra-fine detail, I use a thinner yarn and very small hook to create a mini keychain-sized dandelion that fits in the palm of your hand.

I often swap the fluffy hair yarn for a more silky eyelash yarn or hand-tied mohair for different textures and fluffiness levels.

Try embroidering different expressions—move the sculpting stitches slightly to give a sleepy, surprised, or smiling face for more personality.

I sometimes add tiny crocheted accessories like a scarf or a little daisy to the head for a seasonal touch or gift personalization.

For more secure limbs I use additional thread passes when joining and sometimes add a dab of clear craft glue under the washer when installing the joint for extra durability.

To make it poseable, I occasionally insert flexible craft wire into limbs before joining, which lets me set cute arm and leg positions.

I like to experiment with eye sizes; switching to smaller or larger safety eyes changes the doll's character dramatically—just adjust placement accordingly.

Finally, I always test different stuffing levels to find the right firmness; a lightly stuffed head with careful sculpting gives the sweetest, most expressive face.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

✗ Skipping the stitch marker when working in spirals can cause you to lose track of the first stitch; always place a marker at the start of each round to maintain correct stitch counts. ✗ Pulling the magic ring too tight on head or body pieces can prevent inserting the plastic joint later; leave about 6 mm open so the joint leg can be inserted and secured. ✗ Overstuffing the head or body makes sculpting and shaping difficult and can distort details; stuff gradually and firmly but avoid packing too much stuffing into small openings. ✗ Not making holes before inserting safety eyes can split or deform stitches; widen the hole gently with a wooden skewer or tweezers before inserting the eyes. ✗ Skipping the step of melting the joint leg for secure attachment can make the head come loose over time; use a lighter carefully to melt the plastic leg slightly and press it to the washer for a safer fit.

At this stage we connect the head to the body using a joint. Insert the joint into the space left from the MR on the head (from the inside), then pass through the MR on the body (p.5). Fix it with a washer. For a more safe attachment it is necessary to melt the leg of the joint and press it against the washer with a flat metal tool (I use tweezers or scissors) (p.6). Melt the leg only with the blue part of the fire so that the plastic does not turn black. Watch the video of the joint installation process.

— HEAD (part 2) :

Info :

Insert the safety eyes between rows 10 and 11 with a distance of 8-9 stitches. To make it easier to insert the eyes, first make holes for them. I use a wooden skewer, insert it between the stitches and widen the hole. You can also use tweezers or blunt end scissors (you do not want to damage the stitches) (p.8).

Info :

Continue crocheting with green yarn. Color change should be on the back of the head, make or undo several stitches in beige yarn if needed.

— ASSEMLING :

Sculpting :

To sculpture eyes and mouth use a stong thread (approximately about 40 cm). Each time you insert or pull out the needle, make sure it is as close to the eye as possible. Thread the needle, insert it from the top of the head (point 1, p.12), leave a small tail about 10 cm, - pull the needle out at point 2, insert it into point 3, pull it out at point 4 - insert it into point 5, pull it out at point 6 (between rows 5 and 6), insert it into point 7, - pull it out at point 8, pull up both ends of the thread to the desired degree of tightening. Tie the ends together several times, continue: - insert the needle again at point 1, pull it out at point 2, insert it into point 9, - pull it out at point 4, insert it into point 10, pull it out at point 8. Pull up both ends, tie them together several times and weave them in. Embroider the whites of the eyes with white yarn (p.13-14).

Nose :

Embroider the nose using the same yarn you used for crocheting the body. Make one horizontal stitch between rows 8 and 9 (one row below the eyes) (p.15), then wrap this stitch with 5-6 stitches as shown on p.16-17. Pull the ends out at the back of the head, tie them together and weave in.

Eyebrows :

Emroider the eyebrows with 1 stitch (I use 2 ply embroidery thread): Pull the needle out 2 rows above the eye and insert in at the point 2 stitches to the side and one row below (p.18).

Thread joining :

Pin the arms between rows 5 and 6, and the legs between rows 12 and 13. You can choose a different placement, but be careful, the legs should not be too high or low. Use a strong thread (we will need about 50 cm for the arms and 50 cm for the legs). Grab several stitches from the inside of the arm (p.20), pull the needle through the body (p.21.22), grab several stitches on the inner side of the second arm (p.23), insert the needle back into the same hole on the body (p.24). Repeat these steps several times (4-5 will be enough), inserting the needle into the same holes and trying to grab the same stitches on the arms. Pull up both ends, tie them together several times and weave them in. Attach the legs using the same method.

Hair :

Cut the yarn into strands of about 12 cm/4.7" long. Start with 80 strands, make more later if needed. Attach stands using knotless method (watch the video of the process). Skip one stitch each time to avoid very thick hair. Go around moving counterclockwise (p.26) until the entire green part of the head is covered. Do not skip stitches in the last row, attach strands into each stitch (p.27). Cut the hairs to the desired length (mine are about 3-4 cm/1.5"), fluff the ends with a slicker brush.

Blushing :

I add blush to cheeks, nose and mouth. Add a little touch of blush and blend it well.

Assembly Instructions

  • Insert the plastic joint leg into the space left from the magic ring on the head, then pass it through the magic ring on the body and fix with a washer; melt the leg slightly with a lighter and press to the washer for a secure attachment.
  • Pin and attach the arms between rows 5 and 6; use the thread joining method grabbing several inner stitches of the arm and passing the needle through the body, repeat 4-5 times and tie securely.
  • Position and attach the legs between rows 12 and 13 using the same strong-thread joining method as the arms for even, secure placement.
  • Embroider the nose with one horizontal stitch between rows 8 and 9, then wrap this stitch with 5-6 stitches, pull ends to the back, tie and weave in.
  • Sculpt the eyes and mouth using a strong thread following the insertion sequence shown, pull up to desired expression, tie, and weave ends securely.
  • Attach safety eyes between rows 10 and 11 with 8-9 stitches apart, first widen holes with a wooden skewer or tweezers to avoid damaging stitches.

Important Notes

  • 💡All parts are worked in continuous spirals (without slip stitch and ch), unless noted otherwise; use a stitch marker to keep track of rounds.
  • 💡Leave about 6 mm unpulled on the magic ring for head and body so you can insert the plastic joint later.
  • 💡When installing the plastic joint, melt the leg carefully with the blue part of the flame only to avoid blackening the plastic and press it flat to the washer for extra security.
  • 💡Pin parts in place and check symmetry before sewing; adjust placement as needed before final stitching.
